ARDMORE, OK -- A mother of a 2 month old baby that died in Ardmore yesterday morning, faces child neglect charges

"Then I heard a couple more cops then I seen an ambulance drive up and then another ambulance and then the fire truck so I knew something else was going on," witness Terry Spurgeon says.

Terry Spurgeon stood and watched as police arrived to a scene that he describes as the 'the worst thing that could ever happen.’

"I think it’s sad that somebody would rather do drugs then take care of their babies," Spurgeon says.

Police say it happened here in this trailer Wednesday morning, in the 1400 block of North East B Street in Ardmore, where 2 month old Paizley Kay Rayne stopped breathing.

"Upon arrival officers and medics discovered a two month old child who was not breathing; the child was transported to mercy hospital where she was later pronounced dead," Ardmore Police Captain Eric Hamblin says.

Captain Eric Hamblin says 30 year old Victoria Pipes was later arrested for child neglect, as well as a handful of drug charges.

"Officers with the police department executed a search warrant at that residence and located a small amount of methamphetamine, marijuana, and some paraphernalia," Hamblin says.

Police say there was another person in the home at the time of the baby’s death but he was released after questioning, along with Pipes’ three other children.

Police say Pipes had three other children living with her, two 8 year olds and a 2 year old.

"She needs to grow up and learn how to be a momma and get a hold of her life," Spurgeon says.

Captain Hamblin says the medical examiner is performing an autopsy to determine whether or not the cause of death was intentional or accidental.
