Denison police offer "safe exchange zones" for Craigslist deals
DENISON, TX -- You may know the uneasy feeling. You just bought something online and now you have to go alone to meet up with a stranger just to get what you bought.
Now a local police department is offering to be there with you.
The Denison Police Department has new “safe exchange zones.” They’re parking spaces at the station that give people a place where they can meet a stranger who they bought something from or as a safe drop-off for parents sharing custody.
Security cameras are always rolling on them and officers are within reach if anything takes a turn.
Officers say they're ready for anyone to use them.
"This is 24 hours a day, seven days a week, surveillance is 24 hours as well,” said Lt. Paul Neumann with the Denison Police Department, “and at any given time the community can utilize this."
If you're interested in using the spaces, they're clearly marked with paint on the pavement.
They're on the east side of the department.
