Blind Woman Speaks to Community and the Work Force About Disabilities

ARDMORE, OK -- “Can you understand that blindness does not prevent a person from living a full productive life."

Words of wisdom from a former nurse who's been blind for nearly 15 years.

Dorothy Robinson lost her sight due to too much pressure on her optic nerve.

"My eyes, I think they are still trying to see, but they can’t send the message to my brain, it’s called elevated intercranial pressure,” motivational speaker, Dorothy Robinson says.

But Robinson says she does not let her disability stop her from living her life.

Which is why she teamed up with the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center, to speak to the community about the blind playing an integral role in the work force.

"I’m hoping personally that we'll be able to assist other entrepreneurs that are blind, not seeing, or have any other disabilities, through Dorothy’s story,” business advisor, Jessica Ervin says.

Business advisor, Jessica Ervin says she hopes that after hearing Dorothy’s message; employers will be more willing to hire a blind person.

Manager of Murray on Main, Janie May says as long as someone is qualified, disabilities mean nothing.

"I think everybody deserves a chance to be able to show what they have and what they can do,” May says.

And Robinsons motivational speaking proves just that.

"Blindess does not prevent a person from living a full productive life,” Robinson says.
