High School Football Week 5: Denison prepares for Lovejoy

DENISON, TX - Spirits are high and efforts are high, as the Denison Yellow Jackets prepare for week 5 of the Friday Night Lights.

"If we can go in their house and make it ours, we will oblige," said senior Devin Mitchell.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a bye week, and are ready to kick off their district schedule with preseason pick to win it all, the Lovejoy Leopards.

"The bye week was good, everyone was pretty banged up. But now everyone is healthy again, and I think we will be ready for the challenge on Friday," said junior defensive back, Tre' Lyday.

"We just want to go into the game and be 1-0 because they are predicted to win the district. And we are going to go in and prove everybody wrong because we are the underdogs in this thing right now," echoed sophomore lineman, Jaden Forbes.

"We just need to take advantage, take what they are taught and use it against them," said Mitchell.

"We are obviously Lovejoy's homecoming game, and we are not going to accept that" said sophomore quarterback, Hunter Watson.

Lovejoy has an explosive offense, led by two D-1 commits in quarterback, Bowman Sells and wide receiver, Aaron Fuller. This Denison defense knows what they are up against, but say it's time to take away the spots from this Leopard team.

"We put in a new defense, I can't tell you all what it is yet, but it will surprise them. We will be ready for it," Lyday said.

"We do go in as an 0-0 mindset because non-district play doesn't really matter. And the only thing that matters is playing those seven games," said junior linebacker, Hunter Bigelow.

Coach Chad Rogers also reiterated the Yellow Jackets effort, "I think they have to prepare for us too. You can say we have a big challenge, but I think they have just as big of a challenge controlling our offense as we will theirs. We, you know, give people a lot of problems."

District 10-5A better take note, this Yellow Jackets team is ready to make history this Friday.

"Denison hasn't won a game against Lovejoy, so, you know, we are really pumped up and ready to get after them," Watson asserted with confidence.

"Like Coach Rogers has been saying, they are giving us the combination. All we have to do is put it exactly in the play and we should shut them down," said Mitchell.

"They are picked to win the district. So, in order to be the best, you have to beat the best. We are coming in with the mindset, that if we do what we do, no one can stop us,' lyday said.

"We are just going to come in here and prove everyone wrong. We are Denison, that is what we do," Forbes added.

Denison travels to Lovejoy Friday. Kick-off at 7:30 pm.
