Ardmore Man Dead After Officer Involved Shooting

ARDMORE -- An officer involved shooting left one man dead Sunday morning.

Two Ardmore Police Department officers responded to a suicide call in the 1000 block of Bailey Street just before 10 a.m.

A spokesman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation, which is handling the case, said 41-year-old Eric Tompkins was standing outside the home when officers arrived. An officer opened fire when Tompkins ignored commands to keep his hands out of his pockets, and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun.

Tompkins died at the hospital.

He lived in the home with his mother, who placed the emergency call.
