Charges dropped against local pastor accused of possessing obscene material

PITTSBURG COUNTY, OK -- Charges have been dropped against a former southern Oklahoma pastor accused of possessing obscene materials.

The Pittsburg County Court Clerk's office says the case has been dismissed against Larry Jones.

Jones was arrested in September after police say his wife found a sexually explicit story he had written involving children that attended his church.

Jones was charged with possession of obscene or indecent writings but his lawyers challenged the language of the law arguing that private letters are protected under the first amendment.

Jones was fired from the McAlester Missionary Baptist Church as a result of the allegations.
