Bryan County Jail Escapee Apprehended in Arkansas

BRYAN COUNTY -- It's been four days since Raymond Jay Stewart was last seen running out these jail doors, but today a police officer in Hot Springs, Arkansas recognized him because of those multiple facial tattoos.

This mugshot taken about 2 p.m. today after an officer saw him walking down the street. When asked his name, he replied 'Raymond Stewart.' The sheriff says his department issued an all points bulletin with Stewart's picture -- the reason he was so easily recognized.

"At this time we're unclear on what his means of transportation were or how he got away from here, but we suspect it was pretty simple," said Ken Golden, Bryan County Sheriff. "Maybe the railroads or something. His his family had said that he had you know rode the trains before out of Durant."

Stewart is charged with the first degree murder of Steven Sessums -- and now has an additional charge of escape.

He signed extradition papers and will be transported back here to the Bryan County Jail. The sheriff here says they are currently reviewing jail policies to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
