Durant softball hosting regional for second straight year
DURANT, OK -- The fall isn't just for football. Several area fast pitch and baseball teams are tearing it up as state tournament time in Oklahoma is right around the corner.
The Durant Lady Lions are getting ready to host a Class 5A regional for the second straight year.
They're overjoyed having the inside track on their first state tournament bid since 2005.
"Well we just, we've been working hard. We've had a good season and I think we deserve to have a bunch of people out here to support because everyone on this team has worked as hard as they can and just do everything that they can," senior Kylie Manning said.
"That'd be awesome to be able to be sent off by the school, just going to state, it'd be a good thing for Durant," senior Alexa Richards added.
"Being a 5A school in Southeastern Oklahoma, there's not a lot of schools around and so we're always traveling. We're used to it, the teams used to it but the same time to have Grove, which is four-and-a-half hours away, Pryor, which is three hours and Bishop Kelley, which is three hours, to come down here to see what it's like in Southeastern Oklahoma and to make that bus drive because your legs, you're on a bus for three hours and you got to get off and ready to play, it's kind of hard. But we're used to it and maybe, hopefully, they're not," coach Aaron Mullens concluded.
