Austin College's Hoye and Hodge named SCAC players of the week
SHERMAN, TX (AC) -- Austin College football players Delmas Hoye and Shane Hodge have been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for their outstanding efforts in a win over Howard Payne.
Hoye, a sophomore cornerback from Gladewater, made the game-changing play in the team's come from behind victory over the Yellow Jackets. With HPU driving and facing a first and goal from the four, Hoye picked off his second pass of the day at the two yard line and raced 75 yards the other way to set up what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown for the ‘Roos in the fourth quarter.
Hoye finished the game with six tackles, including four solo stops, and two interceptions - the first two picks of his young collegiate career.
Hodge, a senior cornerback from Perryton, made a potentially game-saving play when he blocked a last second, 45-yard field goal attempt by Howard Payne to secure a 19-16 victory. This marks the second straight week that Austin College has gotten a blocked field goal, as well as the second straight week that a ‘Roo has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Hodge also had two tackles and an interception from his position in the secondary.
