Gunter's MiKayla Watson Earns Statewide Honor

GUNTER, TX ---- The Gunter Tigers athletic program is one of the tops in the area. Their football team has raced out to a perfect 3-0 start and are ranked no. 14 in all of class 3A.

Meanwhile the volleyball team is off to an even better start with a no. 2 ranking in their class and a lot of credit has to go to one of the top players in the state.

Junior MiKayla Watson would be named Max Preps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association's player of the week for the Lone Star State.

Between August 25-31 she'd have 14 aces and 132 kills setting her apart.

This isn't the only award she's nabbed this year already either... She was the MVP of both the Whitesboro and Nocona tournaments and an all tournament selection at NCTC...

She's overjoyed with the honor, but won't take all the credit.

"It feels amazing. I definitely couldn't do this without my team because they help and support me a lot and it's just an honor to receive this," Gunter junior middle blocker said.

Watson would also pass the career 1,000 kill mark tonight as she had 22 against Howe.
