Prosecutors to present regent case to grand jury

Posted: Updated:

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Travis County prosecutors plan to ask a grand jury to look into whether a University of Texas System regent illegally released confidential student information during his relentless pursuit of Austin campus records.

State lawmakers have already censured Regent Wallace Hall over his actions during a years-long personal investigation of the Austin campus administration, including President Bill Powers. Travis County's Public Integrity Unit, which prosecutes public corruption cases, has been separately investigating Hall.

Assistant District Attorney Gregg Cox, who leads the unit, told the Houston Chronicle ( ) he intends to take the case to a grand jury "in the near future."

Cox did not immediately return a telephone message from The Associated Press. Hall did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
