DENISON, TX -- The Army Corps of Engineers selects 2 bids for major projects at the Denison Dam.

According to the Fed Biz Opps website, the $24 million contract involving turbine units 1 and 2 went to York, Penn.-based Voith Hydro Inc.

It calls for taking apart and replacing parts in the powerhouse and installing 2 turbine runners. Only 1 unit may be out of service at a time.

Assistant lake manager B.J. Parkey says the work starting next year will take about 2 years, and should make power generation more efficient.

Meantime, according to trade publications, a $3.5 million contract to replace 3 flood gates was awarded to Alltech Engineering of St. Paul, Minn.
