SAN DIEGO, CA, August 29, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Majid Mani has been recognized as Top Doctor by the San Diego County Medical Society two years in a row. This distinction is awarded to five percent of the active, board-certified San Diego County physicians in any specialty where there are more than ten such physicians.

2014 marks the second consecutive year Dr. Mani has been elected as Top Doctor by his peers and fellow members of this prestigious medical society. Also, Dr Majid Mani is the president elect of Imperial County medical society for 2015-17.

San Diego's Top Docs share a special nomination and selection process that is based on their medical peers choice of the doctor they would send their own family members to for treatment in their specialty.

Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Mani is Medical Director of California Retina Associates in El Centro, California and is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology. Dr. Mani's reputation for expertise in diabetic related vision issues has led to his involvement as speaker at numerous professional gatherings.

Known for his depth of knowledge and skilled treatment of diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Mani has received numerous awards from the American Diabetes Association recognizing his work. He is the first ophthalmologist to receive the Doctor of the Year Award from El Centro Regional Hospital.

In a concerted effort to help educate the public, Dr. Mani serves on the Advisory Board of American Diabetes Association and is an active member of the Imperial County Diabetic Education Committee.

"Diabetes is an under-diagnosed disease and many of our patients are not even aware of their diabetic condition until they experience vision problems," shared Dr. Mani. "People with diabetes are 40% more likely to suffer from glaucoma and 60% more likely to develop cataracts. Diabetic retinopathy covers a range of conditions that affect the retina, some that can lead to complete vision loss."

Symptoms of diabetic retinopathy may include: Blurred vision; Vision fluctuations; Difficulties with color perception; Floaters or flashers; Dark spots in the visual field. Left untreated, diabetic retinopathy can result in a complete, irreversible loss of vision.

A graduate of prestigious Tulane School of Medicine, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Louisville.

"When I was completing medical school, many of the advanced diagnostic tools we now use every day in our clinic did not exist," said Dr. Mani. "These remarkable systems can photograph and document even the tiniest of abnormalities. This gives us excellent insight into how to quickly correct problems as well as stop the progression of conditions that could result in vision loss or vision compromise."

Internationally known for their expertise in treating retinal and vitreous disorders, the ophthalmology team at California Retina associations are equally experienced in diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders occurring in any part of the eye.
