Denison Shuts Down City Pool For Repairs For Rest Of The Month

DENISON, TX -- In the midst of August heat, the city shuts down its only public pool.

Waterloo Pool closed Monday and will remain closed for repairs through September 2, according to a sign posted on the window.

Aquatics technician Chip Egger says the last 2 weeks of August are their slowest time out of all 52 weeks of the year.

That's because only the office area has air-conditioning, and the sun beats down on the glass roof, making it hot inside.

"I really think it's a shame. A lot of people use that swimming pool. Kids enjoy it, the seniors enjoy it," says Cindy Roberson.

"I would think until after the school started, then they could let it close, but while it's still summertime, the kids are still out, I'd let it go," says James Hayden.

Egger says they will fix damage in the women's bathroom from an earlier plumbing leak, re-hang the mirrors, and do power washing and painting. The A/C repairman also stopped by on Monday.
