MADILL, OK -- The Madill Wildcats hope 2013 will be quickly forgotten.
"We've all got that bad taste in our mouth from last season, 4-6 just not acceptable to them or to us as a staff. So we're glad it's here so we can start doing some things," head coach Milton Cooper said.
Just the year prior, Madill would have a perfect regular season, winning the district title before falling out to the eventual state champions in the second round of the playoffs. They want that back.
"We've got to establish what we had a couple years ago and that's the intensity, just playing hard and that's something that was missing from last year that hopefully we've corrected," Cooper added.
"That's our main goal right now, is just to do well in districts and make the playoffs and then once we get there to just execute what we need to do and especially for us seniors. It's a big deal for us," senior quarterback Colton Clement added.
They have six returners on each side of the ball giving them plenty of experience.
They'll have to rely heavily on their senior leadership to keep everyone focused on the prize.
"Last year we didn't have much leadership and we're planning on leading this freshman group and sophomore group that's coming up so they can eventually win one," senior wide receiver and defensive back Rio Zamora said.
The Wildcats had a five year postseason streak up until last fall. This senior class wants to make sure they're the start of a much longer one.
"We just want to get back to where we're used to being able to play. We'd love to make the postseason again and that's a big opportunity and we have it. So we're going to take it," Zamora concluded.
