HOWE, TX -- It's year two under head coach Zack Hudson and the Howe Bulldogs would already see improvement in year one.
"It's always great to have a great relationship with your coaches especially with coach Hudson, he's one of the, a great coach. You know, he's brining this program back up, I'm very excited," senior quarterback and linebacker Joaquin Lopez said.
The Bulldogs were a game better last season, and with that under Hudson's belt, they're looking to turn some heads in the fall."
"Everything is easier, it's easier on the kids, easier on the parents, easier on the coaches because of the kids. They know the expectations, they know what time to be here, they know all those things," Hudson said.
He no longer needs to supply the motivation either. The Dogs show up early every day and put in the work in the off-season to be great.
"Work hard, you know, I have a great feeling about this year, we'll see what happens, but we're working hard, we worked hard this summer, you know I'm excited," Lopez continued.
There are only ten seniors on the squad, down from 18. They still have a lot of experience after playing several juniors and sophomores in 2013.
"We had a lot of linemen graduate, but since our returners are coming back in a lot of skill positions, we're very excited about that," Hudson said. "We're putting in a new offense that really fits our kids, so everybody's really excited about that. The kids are very excited about it."
The head coach always sets the same goal: to play after Thanksgiving. If the seniors can have their way this year, they'll be playing closer to Christmas.
"I hope we win that state championship. We haven't had one and it would be great to leave Howe with a state championship," Lopez concluded.
