56 ECU Student-Athletes Earn GAC Academic All-Conference Honors

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (ECU) - East Central University was represented by 56 student-athletes from the 2013-14 season on the Academic All-Great American Conference list. A total of 476 student-athletes from around the league's 11 teams made the list, with the Tigers having the second highest total of representatives.

ECU had student-athletes from all 13 sports on the list, with soccer leading the way with 10. Baseball and softball each had eight representatives. Football, men's tennis, volleyball and women's golf had four. Men's cross country and women's basketball added three and men's basketball, men's golf, women's cross country and women's tennis each had two.

"Division II celebrates the ideal of life in the balance," GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt said. "For the GAC to again grow its All-Academic selections serves as a testament to our student-athletes, faculty, administrators and support staff."

For student-athletes to be recognized on the Academic All-Conference team, they must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution. In addition, their grade-point average must be a minimum of 3.30 based on the 4.0 system. The GPA shall be cumulative for the athlete's entire collegiate career.

In the 2012-13 season the Tigers had 52 all-academic selections and 58 were on the inaugural team in 2011-12.
