TOM BEAN, TX ---- The Tom Bean Tom Cats are in an uphill battle in district 5-3A., but second year head coach Allen Cross is ready.
"As opposed to last season, this year we know who are kids are. We know what kids are in what position. The technique is here, the terminology is here. It's just now getting the kids into the we think they need to be in, so they can be successful," Tom Bean head coach Allen Cross said.
Success is the name of the game for the Tom Cats, who are looking to build on 2013's record of 4-6.
"Just getting back on the field. Trying to redeem ourselves from last year. It was a tough year. Just trying to get back, fresh start and just be a better team than we were last year," Tom Bean senior linebacker/tight end Hunter Book said.
"We got to find a way to win. We're going to get physical. That's what I told the kids. We're going to play fast, aggressive be physical. And just take it one day at a time, one game at a time," Cross said.
The Tom Cats will need all of that physicality when district play rolls around.
"It's definitely going to be tough this year, with S&S coming back as district champs and Leonard going all the way to the State semis and Gunter, just always being Gunter. But were just going to try to be Tom Bean and worry about the best we can be and not really worry too much about the other teams," Book said.
Tom Bean kicks off the 2014 season on August 29 at home against Lindsay.
