Author Teresa Fischlowitz records life of upheaval and change in "From Barbed Wire to Picket Fence."

San Diego (PRWEB) July 15, 2014

Author Teresa Fischlowitz spent her seventh birthday on a train. This train wasnt heading to any sort of celebration for the young girl, it was heading to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany.

Fischlowitzs memoir, From Barbed Wire to Picket Fence: A Child Holocaust Survivors Dreams and Adaptability (published by AuthorHouse), details her familys rescue from the camp several months later and their subsequent journey as refugees.

This book is the story of survival of the Holocaust through being ransomed to freedom, Fischlowitz says, and then survival and adapting to many different cultures, told from a point of view of a child growing up.

Fischlowitz credits her adaptability and the example her parents set in helping her weather the constant change in her life; by the time she graduated high school, she attended 17 schools in six languages on three continents.

An excerpt from From Barbed Wire to Picket Fence:

I think recalling my mother cooking for strangers and serving them three meals a day in her own home made a deep impression on me about her strength and adaptability. I may not have said anything about it at that time, but her example of adapting to the situation we were in was not lost on me.
