FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A North Texas woman has been accused of being the so-called "wig bandit" linked to at least seven bank robberies by a woman wearing fake hair.
Fort Worth police on Thursday announced the arrest of 23-year-old Jessica Renee Stell of Lake Worth.
Stell, in a jailhouse interview Wednesday with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (http://bit.ly/U5s2eu ), says she robbed banks to pay for her heroin habit.
Cpl. Tracey Knight says Stell, who was arrested June 23 at her home, has confessed to seven holdups since January. Nobody was hurt. Detectives with a search warrant recovered undisclosed evidence.
Police say Stell remains in custody facing parole violation and drug warrants. Federal bank robbery charges are pending.
Police did not have details on an attorney for Stell.
