OHP Stepping Up Patrols To Prevent Drunk Driving

ARDMORE, OK -- With the Fourth of July holiday falling at the start of a weekend, Oklahoma Highway Patrol is gearing up to crackdown on impaired driving.

Captain Ronnie Hampton says Troop F will focus preventing drunk driving with other law enforcement agencies with large scale efforts in Carter, Marshall, and Love counties.

Troopers say since the first of the year they began tracking the Point of Last Drink and will use the data from the past six months to boost patrols
"If you know you're going to be going to the lake, or a friend's house, or a licensed establishment and you know that you're going to consume alcoholic beverages, what we want you to know is there's going to be a group of 14 troopers focusing on areas that are most likely to produce a drunk driver and you're going to be arrested if you're impaired," said Hampton.

Hampton says patrols will also be based on numbers from last year's Fourth of July to find the areas where the most cases of impaired driving have happened.
