Crash Kills Tishomingo Girl And Leaves Another Injured

BECKHAM COUNTY, OK -- A Texoma family was involved in a deadly accident Friday in western Oklahoma.

Troopers say Cathy Baker, 29, of Tishomingo, was driving with her two daughters when a semi struck their SUV at the intersection of Highway 152 and Highway 6.

One 11-year-old girl died in the crash. According to OHP, she did not have her seatbelt on and was ejected from the car.

The other 12-year-old girl, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pinned in the vehicle and later taken by helicopter to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

According to OHP, Baker was heading south and making a left turn onto Highway 152 when a semi driver, Steven Lay, 44, of Altus, who was heading north, hit her 2006 Chevy Trailblazer.

Lay was not hurt. The cause was listed as failure to yield at the intersection.

Cathy Baker was treated and released from the hospital in Elk City, troopers said. The airbags did not deploy.

Friends of the family tell us they were in the area for an age 12-and-under softball tournament in Hobart.
