SHERMAN, TX -- A longtime Sherman police officer is calling it quits after more than 20 years with the department.

Assistant Chief Ken Francis held a private retirement party at the Municipal Court in the police department on Friday afternoon.

According to the program, he started in Fort Worth and spent 21 years in Sherman serving in several functions, including the last 10 years as a captain and assistant chief.

Francis was one of two candidates for police chief last year, and was also a finalist to be Denison's chief in 2011. He also helped design the current Sherman police badge.
