Drivers reminded to lock doors after recent rash of vehicle burglaries

Posted:
DENISON -- Denison police are reminding drivers to be diligent when it comes to leaving valuables in your car.

Police say there was a rash of vehicle burglaries where property was stolen from inside.

In a couple cases, police say the vehicles themselves were stolen.

The common denominator in each incident: The vehicles were left unlocked.

"Bad guys don't want to be seen and they don't want to be heard and if they have to break windows and kick doors in that is a deterrent. That doesn't mean they won't ever do it but a lot of times that's enough deterrent for them to go somewhere else," Lt. Mike Eppler said.

Police say the vehicles that were stolen actually still had the keys stuck in the ignition.

They recommend keeping doors locked and property out of plain view.
