DISD "shocked" over allegations of improper teacher student relationship

Posted:
DENISON -- A Denison high school teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student has resigned.

The Denison Independent School District says it is shocked by the allegations.

Administrators say they're concerned for the student, the student's family and also for the family of the teacher involved.

Early last week, DISD says it received a tip from an adult that a DHS teacher was having an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Assistant superintendent Dr. George Hatfield says the district looked into the complaint immediately.

"We conducted our own investigation which showed us there was a suspicion of wrong-doing," he said.

DISD says the teacher has resigned and that the investigation is now in the hands of Denison police.

"Can't really say much at this point but I will say we're talking to people and gathering information," Lt. Mike Eppler said.

The District says it does not believe any other students were involved in an inappropriate relationship with the teacher.

So far, no charges have been filed.

DISD says it has sent a letter to the Texas Education Agency Board of Certification notifying them of the allegation of an improper relationship between a teacher and a student.
