ARDMORE, OK -- For band students, the last few weeks for summer are reserved for rehearsals to gear up for the fall marching band season. But one Texoma marching band has yet to hit the field and it has some people in the community concerned. As the calendar flips closer to August, marching bands across Texoma turn parking lots into football fields to practice. GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- It was a scary afternoon for some preschoolers and their parents in Grayson County when a school bus and an SUV collided.

No parent wants to ever witness a school bus accident, let alone one with their own child. But Tuesday some Sherman parents did.

“Oh my God, I had just left gone to the store,” said Jackie Modisette, a parent of one of the children on the bus, “and I saw this bus coming and I was like I got to hurry up and get back."

Modisette says she or a friend usually picks up her son C.J. at the bus stop every afternoon, but Tuesday something didn't feel right.

"I got back through and said has C.J. made it,” she said, “and she said no. and I knew then."

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on F.M. 1417. The children on the bus were part of a head start program with Sherman ISD. All the children on board were three and four years old.

"They had seat belts including shoulder harnesses which they were very appropriately seated on this bus, which probably saved any injuries,” said Billy Ray, with the Denison Fire Department.

KTEN spoke with the Sherman ISD Department of Transportation and they say the bus was so well equipped because it followed the specific guidelines of the Head Start program, which parents say they are thankful for.

"Relief. Relief,” said Modisette, “very much so. It's just that feeling of a mother to know you're waiting on your child to get home and there's a certain time he should get there. I just feel sorry for all the kids because I know they're scared. They’re just babies."

The woman in the other vehicle was transported to Texoma Medical Center for, what crews say were, non-life threatening injuries. And while no child was hurt, Modisette says it might be a few days before she’s back at the bus stop.

"Let's take him to school for a couple of days,” she said. “Just to make sure he's ok getting back on the bus."

Denison Fire, Airport Fire, Sherman ISD and DPS Troopers all responded and within twenty minutes the school district had another bus to take the children away from the scene. Officials say it’s important to get the children out of the area not only for safety measures, but to help with any anxiety children may feel.

Officials want to remind the community to be extra careful driving on the roads near school buses. They say to leave room between your vehicle and a bus because you never know when children are on board.
