Gunter is getting a new playground and the community is pitching in to not only help design it but build it as well.

Gunter Park Foundation members tell us the current playground is around 50 years old and very outdated.

The park foundation recently kicked off the planning stage for the new playground and some of the research was actually done by a middle school class.

"There was a seventh grade class last year and they did a project to design a new park. They interviewed a lot of people and some of them built models of it and they came and talked to the city park and that sort of was the foundation," says Debbie Locke who is the Children's Coordinator for the Gunter's Park Foundation.

The design was released for the new playground Thursday evening and now the next step is fundraising.

"The fourth grade plans on writing letters to as many as the alumni as they can to see if they just donate a small amount of money. We told them you know over 50 years a lot of people have graduated so if every person donated ten dollars that would be a lot of money coming back to the play ground," says Locke.

The Foundation will need about $175,000 for the new playground which they hope to have built by next summer.

The Guntter's Park Foundation is a non-profit group, and for more information you can visit their website: http://gunterparksfoundation.com/
