Four AC women's tennis players earn all-conference honors
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Four members of the Austin College women’s tennis team have earned All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors, and Cierra White has been named the SCAC Newcomer of the Year, the conference office has announced.
White, a freshman from Las Vegas, Nev., earned All-Tournament honors after going 2-0 at number three singles at the conference tournament, and was also named the SCAC Player of the Week earlier this season. In addition to being named the Newcomer of the Year, White was also an Honorable Mention All-SCAC selection after finishing the year 11-3 in singles play, including going 5-0 against conference opponents.
Sophie McDonald, a senior from Longview, was a First Team All-SCAC selection and received the fifth most points in the voting by the conference coaches for her outstanding play this season. McDonald went 6-8 at number one singles, including 2-2 against SCAC foes, and also went 7-7 at number two doubles, and was the SCAC Player of the Week to end the regular season.
Meghan White, a sophomore from Plano, was an Honorable Mention All-SCAC selection after going 5-7 in singles action this season, and in addition put together a 7-7 mark in doubles play. That doubles record includes a pair of victories against SCAC opponents.
Kate Willis, a freshman from Friendswood, was an Honorable Mention All-SCAC pick after going 6-9 in singles competition while also teaming with Cierra White to go 7-8 in doubles action, including 3-3 against conference opponents. Last fall, Willis and White teamed to win the “B” Doubles Draw at the ITA Southwest Region Championships.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
