Tom Bean offering extra patrol to out-of-towners

TOM BEAN -- School will be out for summer soon, and many will go away for vacation. But the city of Tom Bean wants crooks to know they're still being watched.

The Tom Bean Police Department is offering a new type of service to residents.

It gives them the chance to sign up for extra patrol of their home when they go out of town.

The patrol is for a variety of reasons: To let homeowners know if a problem comes up with their home and to divert thieves.

Chief Frank Deater says there are about 9,000 people that travel on Highway 11 through Tom Bean daily.

"Some of those people are not always nice. They may be looking for things to take and remove from other people's property so if we're paying attention, we know we can kind of keep an eye on what's around the house," Deater said.

To sign up, all residents have to do is stop by the tom bean police station and fill out a form.
