The images coming out of storm ravaged northeast Oklahoma and parts of Arkansas are hard to look at.

16 people are confirmed dead from the outbreak of tornadoes Sunday night.

Texoma is known for its generosity and the local Red Cross is hoping to lend a helping hand to the families affected by the storm.

"Right now what we are looking for is money. I hate to say it that way but when disaster strikes and folks are misplaced out of their homes and everything else what we need as a Red Cross chapter is to be able to help Red Crosses in other areas are funds," says Sara Jerome who is on the Board of Directors for the Denison American Red Cross.

Money donated would be used to provide food for the victims and emergency response volunteers.

Donations would also go directly to the victims so they can purchase what they need to get by.

The American Red Cross in Ardmore says when people donate items many times they can't be sorted.

"Sometimes you can get a lot of one item say you can send in a lot of wash clothes or a lot of deodorant but really what those people need might be shoes," says Alie Newby, the Disaster Program Manager with the Ardmore Red Cross.

So the money donated is given to the victims on a gift card.

"On a card they can go somewhere where its sized, its sorted, its clean and they will be able to just go in and shop quickly get it done and get out of there and get what they need whether its from the Red Cross, Salvation Army, or the local store," says Jerome.

Every storm victim is evaluated by the Red Cross on what they have left and what they are going to need.

"We go through the entire checklist of what you made it out with, we put X amount of dollars on the little card so that you can go support yourself and your family," says Jerome.

If you wish to donate clothes or other things Red Cross asks you to donate to Goodwill. That is where victims can go and buy what they need after disaster strikes.
