Human Remains Could be Linked to Missing Persons Case in Ada

ADA, OK--Human remains were found in Pontotoc County Thursday, and it's possible they are linked to a missing persons case.

Skeletal remains of a man were found in a creek near Pickett Thursday morning. While they remain unidentified at this time, Ada officials tell us there is a chance they are connected to a story we reported on in March.

It was March 27 when Pontotoc County law enforcement agencies deployed a 20-man team to search for missing 38-year-old Ada resident Charles Manuel.

Evidence led teams to a search area near Pickett where Manuel was last seen by family friends on the night of March 12. Sheriff John Christian tells us a rancher gathering cattle Thursday afternoon discovered human remains in a creek.

"We believe that it may be the remains of Mr. Manuel," said Christian. "Appears to be a male subject. Other than that, we were not able to determine any other identifying attributes at this time."

Christian says the body was found in an area search teams had previously investigated. The body was found without clothes and no visible signs of foul play.

"the remains were removed and taken to Oklahoma City for identification and determination of cause of death."

Christian says the availability of Manuel's medical records will determine how long it takes to ID the body.

Christian said: "The Ada PD detectives that we've been working with on this case did make contact with the family to advise them that human skeletal remains had been recovered."

Christian says the search for Charles Manuel will remain ongoing until the body is identified.
