Cabinet Making Contest Comes To Ardmore

ARDMORE, OK -- While robots and other machines often lead the way in science and technology, some good old hands-on workmanship was the focus of a competition at the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center Thursday.

The state cabinet making contest came to Ardmore for the first time, featuring students from across the state of Oklahoma.

Organizers of the event say the state contests are usually held in Oklahoma City or Tulsa.

They say the skills students use and the pieces constructed at the competition are transferable so they can be used for their own personal shops.

"Because the material list is very tight so that any wrong cut could actually jeopardize them competing or completing at a higher level," said Larry Bullock, program specialist.

The students had five hours to complete their projects.

Contestants will complete the final portion of the competition in Tulsa on April 28.
