Wear Blue Day raises awareness about child abuse

SHERMAN -- If people were dressed down at your job today, this may be the reason why.

Today is Wear Blue Day.

It's for Child Abuse Prevention month.

Many people paired blue jeans with blue t-shirts being sold by the Grayson County Children's Advocacy Center.

"Today is special because this is actually a national event where you show your blue. A lot of people are wearing blue jeans today, wearing the t-shirts that you just saw earlier and it's a way of bringing awareness to the problem of child abuse," Martha Nuckols, executive director of the center said.

Outside CPS in Sherman, there is one flag for each of the 559 children reported abused in Grayson County last year.

The advocacy center says that statistic is unusually high for the population in Grayson County.
