Benefit Sunday to Help Injured Denison Police Officer

DENISON -- Police officers put their lives on the line for the safety of others every day and now one of our local officers needs the community's help.

Denison police tell us Sgt. Mike Byrd suffered a stroke while on the job at the end of January. They tell us so far his recovery is going well, however, the department says they are hoping to help him and his family with medical expenses by hosting a benefit in his honor.

"We are family and we want to help each other out and that is just what we do. We all act like family because that's what we are but what is so overwhelming is the support we have had from the community. Not just our community but other communities as well," says Lt. Mike Eppler with the Denison Police Department.

The benefit for Sgt. Mike Byrd will be this upcoming Sunday, April 6th, at Union Station in Denison, 123 W. Woodard Street, starting at 2pm.

There will be food, a silent auction, a raffle for a guided fishing trip and fun things for the kids such as bounce houses and pony rides.
