Sherman Child Abuse Agency Turns 10 With Big Renovation

SHERMAN, TX -- An agency helping uncover child abuse in Grayson County celebrates a big birthday.

The Children's Advocacy Center held an open house tonight to show off a $450,000 renovation and expansion at its building on Cottonwood Drive.

Instead of going to a police station, kids undergo forensic interviews here to help investigators gather information about potential crimes.

"We renovated the front part and we added on from this wall back. That allowed us to expand our therapy rooms so that we had enough therapy rooms for all the children coming in and it gave us the conference room," says executive director Martha Nuckols.

Several grants helped to expand the center, which is now 10 years old. They now have 8 therapy rooms used to help children who they learn have been abused, and that's up from about 4 rooms before, Nuckols said.
