Murray State soccer signs inaugural class

Posted: Updated:

ARDMORE, OK -- The Murray State College Aggies would sign a piece their inaugural class Thursday in Ardmore.

Coach Shane Ross would introduce Joshua Miles from Ardmore, Keenan Brown from Marietta High School and Zachary Phillips and Benjamin Gonzales from Ardmore High School after they'd sign their letters of intent.

There are still several more spots to fill, but the brand new men's and women's soccer teams are drawing attention from all over the Sooner and Lone Star states.

The teams will be based out of the Ardmore campus and will join the highly successful athletic program already in place.

The Aggies are thrilled.

"It's a historic event," athletic director Zach Crabtree said. "We started golf three years ago and the golf program has been really successful and then this is the inaugural class of Murray State soccer and it's just a really special day for the students and also for the college as well as our athletic program is growing and so getting to start a new sport and to be our second sport in three years is really exciting for the college."

The Aggies will compete in NJCAA's Division III. They'll play their first game in late August.
