BONHAM, TX --- Big crowd in Bonham tonight as the Warriors welcomed home one of their all time greats, Danny Darwin AKA The Bonham Bullet. Darwin pitched for BHS back in the late 60s before heading over to Denison and playing at Grayson College.
He stayed true to his Lone Star State roots, signing with the Texas Rangers in 1976 and playing 20 years in the majors.
Tonight the number 3 he wore back in his high school days was retired and he says he couldn't have done it without his teammates.
"Any time something like that happens, you look back over your career and just wonder how it does happen. It's like I said earlier, you win awards individually a lot, but also its a team effort. If you don't have a good cast around you, a good group of teammates; then awards are not as easy to win. Every award I've ever won when I was playing pro ball, high school ball or college ball, I always accepted it on behalf of the team. it takes that team to make you who you are," Danny Darwin said.
