Denison soccer makes program history

Posted: Updated:

DENISON, TX -- The Denison soccer program has been around since 1995 and has never been to the playoffs in two consecutive seasons until now.

This year's boys team has compiled a 11-6-2 record good enough for third in district 17-4A.

They also are the first group to sweep a season series against Sherman.

Head coach Scotty Voight has been around for all but one season and says this group his unique to the other 19 he's had the pleasure of coaching.

"Leadership for sure. The kids have really gone out and taken a hold of it. I've got a good group of seniors that have put the goal out in front of them and have worked hard to get to it definitely. And it, just the success that they're having. I look forward to these guys having something to be proud of once they leave here, they can look back on and to be able to share that with people and that's what we want. We want them to carry that on as they move on and just know that they were a part of something that was different, that was special," Voight said.

They'll play Frisco Wakeland at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Frisco's Toyota Stadium.
