DENISON, TX---- Ever dream of becoming a police officer, but never got the chance? Well now some residents in Denison are joining a program that allows them to participate in some police activities, even though they're not sworn officers.

The City of Denison's Citizen's Police Academy teaches the public about Denison Police Department polices and personnel. Through the classes, students dabble in a variety of topics such as police officer training standards and methods, patrol, police communications, criminal investigations, courtroom procedures, Texas criminal law, Texas juvenile law and police weapons and tactics.

After students graduate, they can do many of the jobs and activities within the Denison Police Department. Some of these jobs include patrol, communications, parades and public events, sporting events and other clerical work.

The academy is open to any resident or worker in Denison who has a clean background and is at least 18 years old. Those enrolled also have to agree to join the Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association upon graduation.

Classes will be held every Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for the next 12 weeks. For more information and a link to the application to enroll, click here.
