DURANT, Okla. - Following her performance in Southeastern's sweep of Southern Nazarene, Jessica Simmons has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Week.
Simmons, a sophomore from Bethel, Okla., turned in an impressive showing in helping the Savage Storm to a sweep of SNU and move their record to 20-7 and 13-3 in GAC play which moved SE back into the league lead.
She posted a .667 average for the weekend in the leadoff spot, going 6-for-9 at the plate with four walks and a sac bunt.
Simmons picked up a double and a triple, and at the end of the third game of the series she connected on her first career home run, a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh inning with the Storm trailing by a run to earn the walk-off victory.
In addition, she scored eight runs on the weekend and drove in four others, slugging 1.333 and posting a .769 on-base percentage.
Simmons also stole seven bases, and has lifted her total to a league leading 22.
