SHERMAN, TX -- A Van Alstyne man is indicted by a grand jury after allegedly abusing a 10-year-old boy and causing severe bruises.

Christopher Murphy, 36, is charged with injury to a child by negligence. According to court documents, Murphy is accused of picking a child up by the neck and throwing him on the bed, along with kicking the child, and hitting the victim on the head.

The alleged abuse happened in 2012 and the child was taken by relatives. Murphy is out on $5,000 bond while awaiting trial.
