OKLAHOMA--- Oklahoma Department of Transportation Road Conditions Update 3-2-14: 3 p.m.

Due to additional rounds of heavy sleet and light snow in northern, central, southern and northeastern Oklahoma, travel continues to be highly discouraged as road conditions are slick and hazardous. Crews are applying sand and salt to roads and bridges and plowing areas of sleet and snow accumulation.

Roads in western and northwestern Oklahoma are slick in spots as sleet and winter precipitation continues in these areas.

Drivers across the state are encouraged to use caution throughout this evening and into the overnight hours as refreezing and black ice conditions are anticipated. ODOT crews are out in full force and will continue to apply materials to roads and bridges and plow accumulations as needed this evening and into the early morning hours tomorrow.

During snow and/or ice conditions, motorists are asked to:
·        Check road conditions before getting out on the roads.
·        Stay at least 200 feet behind road-clearing equipment; crews need room to   maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
·        Allow extra space between vehicles, so there is adequate distance for braking in wet and icy conditions.
·        Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway, but is actually a thin layer of ice.
·        Please be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time to reach destinations

Additional advisories will be sent from this office as conditions change.
