SHERMAN, TX -- A new Mardi Gras festival was held by downtown businesses in Sherman on Saturday night.

Hundreds turned out around the courthouse square for the first Red River Mardi Gras and Jazz Festival. Plenty of people were listening to music under a big tent outside the Little Italy restaurant.

There was more music on the courthouse steps and one booth was serving up crawfish with corn on the cob. The weekend event organized by Downtown Sherman Preservation and Revitalization wrapped up with a brunch on Sunday. Organizers say they hope to make it an annual tradition.
