Sherman holds community meeting for input on next football coach

SHERMAN, TX -- The search is on for a new Bearcat head coach and the Sherman Schools  wanted your input tonight

At the high school Thursday evening leaders of the Champion Search Firm would brief those interested and field questions.

Those questions would range from how important it is to be in a one high school town to how much experience they're looking for.

The search firm's representatives should belong on the Texas high school football Mt. Rushmore. One helped build the Denton ISD football programs while the other laid the ground work for the powerhouse known as Southlake Carroll.

The most popular question asked was if hiring just a head coach separate of an athletic director would limit their pool.

"Ten years ago it would have been very difficult. A lot of head football coaches want to be the athletic director, but nowadays I think with all of the pressure and all that's put on athletic directors someone to come in here and just be able to worry about football and not have to worry about volleyball and cross country and all those things. I think it's a great opportunity for somebody," founder of Champion Bob Ledbetter said.

Ledbetter adds they have close to 70 resumes already from both in state and out of state.

They hope to have some one ready to go by April 1.
