"Black cloud lifted," pain still there for Ringling athletics

ARDMORE, OK -- Ringling head football coach Tracy Gandy says a black cloud has been lifted from his program after the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association's board would overturn an executive decision made last December.

The decision ruled senior wide receiver and defensive back Ryan Lester ineligible.

He'd have to miss their Class A state title game they ultimately lost to Hollis.

Yesterday the board ruled him eligible for spring sports, while punishing the school with it's self-imposed sanctions, missing spring ball being the most notable

All in all it's a win for Ringling even though they won't get another chance at Hollis with Lester in the lineup.

Gandy wishes it would have been settled earlier, although he's glad the board listened.

"At the end of the day, we still were on the field, we still had an opportunity to win the  game and because that can be said for anything, that. And I'm real hesitant to allow our kids to say that something caused us to get beat because I think that's a built in way for an excuse and we just don't want that," he said.

The whole community will rally around the Blue Devils this fall, he'd add.
