Energy Secretary Talks Compressed Natural Gas In Bryan County

DURANT, OK -- An Oklahoma cabinet secretary stopped in Durant to talk about a different way to fuel vehicles.

Governor Mary Fallin's energy and environment secretary was at REI for a town hall meeting on Friday. The state currently has more than 500 CNG vehicles in its fleet, nearly 400 of which were purchased last year at reduced prices.

But without a CNG pump, you can't gas up, and Fallin's office says they are trying to encourage more of these stations to be built.

Secretary Mike Teague says CNG is cheaper than gasoline per gallon, and more environmentally friendly, but the closest stations are in Ada and Wilburton.

They also stopped in Antlers on Jan. 30 and are planning a visit to Alva to try to spark more demand for CNG.
