DENISON, TX -- A teenager and his grandmother escape a fire in Denison tonight.

Firefighters say it started inside a room that is a converted garage. It happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday on Regal Drive, just off Hyde Park.

Police blocked off the street while firefighters worked on the blaze. One resident tells us he saw smoke and quickly ran to get out of the house.

"I just woke up, I went through the house, my grandma came to the door and said, 'What's that smell?' I said, 'I don't know.' We went to the living room. We turned the fan on and you couldn't see nothing but smoke from the roof down. We just got the dogs and got the heck out of there," says fire victim Noel Eaton.

It was a cold one out there for those firefighters with some of the water that ran down the street quickly freezing into black ice. The fire was contained to just the one room with some smoke damage in the rest of the house.
