UPDATE 2-3-14:

SHERMAN, TX -- Police believe the weekend deaths of 2 women who lived together in Sherman are not connected.

Investigators say 26-year-old Sarah Neyland was killed early Sunday morning when her husband ran over her with his car.

45-year-old Leonard Neyland is charged with manslaughter.

Police believe Neyland killed his wife then drove her body home and called 911 saying she was hurt and needed medical help.

They say about the same time 43-year-old Michelle Wheat was killed when her car hit a tree and caught fire near the corner of Friendship Road and Trail Ridge Road.

Police say as of right now they believe the deaths are a coincidence.

Leonard Neyland is being held on a 200-thousand dollar bond.

SHERMAN, TX -- Police are investigating the death of two women that they say happened around the same time in the same area of Grayson County, but are not directly related.

It was around 3 a.m. on Sunday when the neighbors closest to the crash in Sherman slowly realized there was something going on outside their home.

"I thought why is there so much smoke coming up over there, why is there even smoke?" says witness Trenna Little. "I could kind of see red, but I couldn't actually see the flames, so that's when I told Jim you need to get up. He came out here and he came back in and said there's a car over there burning up."

"The whole car was engulfed in flames and it popped a couple more times while I was here so I went in and said we've got to call 9-1-1," says witness Jim Little.

Police say a 43-year-old Sherman woman died in the wreck on Friendship Road.

"Just to think that car was on fire and you don't know if there was somebody in there or not we didn't know it at the time and it was just a sad situation," says Trenna Little.

"There wasn't anything I could do, it was so hot and intense and the windows had already blown out in the car and it was just a burning hulk," says Jim Little.

At the same time, police were also working at another home a few miles away in the 300 block of Laughlin Road.

Police say around 3:20 a.m., Leonard Neyland, 45, called to report his wife was injured and needed an ambulance.

When they arrived, police say they determined he'd run over his wife at another location, causing major injuries and brought her back to the home. She died.

Neyland was arrested and taken to the Grayson County Jail, where he's being held on a  charge of manslaughter.

"Usually things like that don't happen around here," says neighbor Pattie Brown.

Police say they determined the woman who died in the car crash lived in the same home with the Neylands, but they say they believe the two incidents are separate, and coincidental.

##############

Police say they are investigating the apparently unrelated death of a 43-year-old Sherman woman in a fiery car crash, and the death of another woman who also lived in the same home.

Neighbors reported a fiery car crash on Friendship Road around 3 a.m., where police say a 43-year-old woman was found dead.

At the same time, police say they were called to nearby Laughlin Road where they found another woman dead. Leonard Neyland, 45, was arrested and booked into the Grayson County Jail on a charge of manslaughter.

Police Sgt. D.M. Hampton says the Friendship Road car crash victim lives with the Neylands, but they believe her death and the death of Ms. Neyland at the Laughlin Road home are unrelated.

Police and Texas Ranger Brad Oliver continue to investigate these cases, Hampton said.

Sherman police released the following information on Sunday afternoon:

"On February 2, 2014 around 3:20 a.m. 45 year old Leonard Neyland reported to the Sherman Police that his wife, was injured and needed medical assistance.  Members of the Sherman Fire Department arrived and Neyland's wife was found deceased.  Sheriff's deputies from the Grayson County Sheriff's Office are also at the residence in the 300 block of Laughlin Rd., due to the incident. At the same time, Sherman PD officers were responding to a single vehicle crash on Friendship RD where a vehicle struck a tree and caught fire.  The occupant, a 43 year old Sherman woman was deceased inside."

"Through the course of the investigation, it was initially believed that these incidents were related, due to the 43 year old woman living with the Neylands.   Through the investigative efforts of Critical Accident Investigation Team (CAIT), Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Texas Ranger Brad Oliver, it was determined that the crash on Friendship RD and the incident involving the Neylands were not directly related.  It was determined that Leonard Neyland had run over his wife and removed her from the scene after she sustained major injuries and drove to their home.  A warrant for Manslaughter was obtained for Leonard Neyland and he was arrested.   He was transported to the Grayson County Jail and booked in on the Manslaughter charges.  A bond amount has not been set as of the time of this email.
