Baked Potatoes On The Menu At Sherman Charity Fundraiser

SHERMAN, TX -- Dozens eat out tonight to raise funds for charity.

The Grayson County Habitat for Humanity chapter held its Habi-taters fundraiser at the First United Methodist Church.

Organizers say this is the fourth year they've held this particular event, and in the past they've been able to raise about one-quarter of the $50,000 cost to built a new Habitat home.

"Not only is it the ultimate comfort food on a chilly night, but it also raises houses and hope for people in this community," says chapter executive director Laurie Mealy. "It's people who support Habitat and who enjoy an evening together."

Tonight's menu included baked potato, chili, salad, and dessert. The charity has about 500 volunteers help build homes each year, and they plan to start their 29th home in Pottsboro in the spring, Mealy said.
