CARTER COUNTY, OK --  A high speed chase through Carter County ended when the vehicle slammed into a tree.

Troopers say it started about 12:30 on Refinery Road in Ardmore and ended on Blue Bell Road near Horse Apple Road west of Springer.

They say the car drove in the oncoming lane of traffic hitting top speeds of 120 miles per hour.

Troopers say neither the driver, 24 year-old Caleb Vernon of Wilson, nor his passenger, 18 year-old Caly Nipp from Leon, were wearing seatbelts.

"The driver has been flown to a Wichita Falls hospital and the passenger has been flown to a Plano hospital and I don't know the extent of their injuries but they were conscious and breathing here at the scene," said OHP Captain Ronnie Hampton.

Troopers say they found open containers in the vehicle along with drugs--which included marijuana and prescription pills--and a loaded revolver.

Both Vernon and Nipp were admitted at their hospitals in serious condition.

Vernon was listed as having internal and external trunk injuries. Nipp with internal and external trunk injures, head, and arm injuries.
